Jyotiba Phule

Jyotiba Phule was a famous activist, thinker and reformer from the Indian state of Maharashtra during the 19th century. He was also famous as Mahatma Phule. He was born on 11 April 1827 at Satara district in Maharashtra. His wife  name was Savitribai Phule. Jyotiba Phule was very intelligent boy but due to his poor financial condition at home. He left his studies at an early age. He started helping his father by working on his farm. He is prodigy boy, a  neighbour persuaded his father to send him to school. In 1841, he got admission in the Scottish Mission's High School Poona and he completed his education in 1847. Then he met Sadashiv Ballal Govande who remained his close friend throughout his life. At the age of thirteen years, Jyotiba was got married to Savitribai. 
       In 1873, Jyotiba Phule formed the Satya Shodhak Samaj. The purpose of Satya Shodhak Samaj was to decontaminate society from caste discrimination and liberate the oppressed lower caste people from stigmas inflicted by Brahmins. He and his wife wanted to equal rights in our society but lower caste society had no right for education. He worked in many field and tried to upliftment of Lower caste. People from all regions and castes could become a part of this association. Caste discrimination was main problems of people. Jyotiba Phule wanted to reformed it. Most of people were uneducated that time. He regarded as an important figure in the social reform movement. He is mostly known for his efforts in India. Phule started his first school for girls in 1848 in Pune at Tatyasaheb Bhide's residence. He and his wife were the first teachers. Jyotiba Phule devoted his life for the liberation of untouchables from the exploitation of Brahmins. He was died on 28 November 1890.
