Biography Of Swami Vivekananda

                                         


Vivekananda was born on January 12,1863. His real name was Narendranath Dutta. He was one of the most famous spiritual leaders of India. He took the ancient Indian message of Vedanta to the west and at the same time called upon Indians to serve God in man. He was a great social reformer and inspiring personality of India. Vivekananda was called by name Narendranath Dutta. His Father's name was Vishwanath  Dutta. He was a successful lawyer with considerable influence in society. His Mother's name was Bhuvaneshwari Devi. She was a woman with a strong and godly spirit who was a great influence on her son. As a child, he was sharp minded and he was also basically philosophied Hindu culture believing in all religions as equal mutual respect to all religions & humanity. He said that conversion is important as all religions lead to talk of creator who teaches, humanity towards all is creations, humans, animals and nature.

                                                              Education 

Swami Vivekananda  was intelligent since childhood, He was the only student who has received first division marks in Presidency College entrance examination. He was very intelligent to all subjects, like as history , social science, art, literature and including religion. He had also interest in Puranas, vedas and Upanishads.

                                                              Spiritual awaking

 In 1884, the death of his father caused Narendranath to find himself in considerable financial trouble, Being a son, He had to support his mother and his younger siblings. He asked Ramakrishna to pray to the goddesss for the financial well being of his family. After that Ramakrishna's suggestion, he went to the temple himself to pray but as soon as he faced the goddess , he could not ask for money or wealth but he instead asked for "Vivek"(conscience)and "Bairagya"(Isolatio).That day marked Narendranath full spiritual awaking and he was become enlighted. From then we call him Swami Vivekananda.

                                                       The Life as a Monk

      Ramakrishna became seriously ill with throat Cancerin the middle of 1885. He formed a group of young men who were ardent followers of Sri Ramkrishna and who together looked after their Guru with devoted care. After that Sri Ramakrishna surrendered his mortal body on August 16, 1886. After Sri Ramakrishna 's disappearance after sometime, around fifteen of his disciples, including Narendranath began to live together in a ruined building in Baranagar , north Calcutta called the Ramakrishna Math, the monastic order of Ramakrishna. Here, They formally resigned in 1887 all connections to the world and took monastic vows.

                     Vivekananda left the Math in 1886 and toured India on foot and absorbed much of the social cultural  and religions aspects of the people with the whom he came in contact . he witnessed the adversities of life that common people faced their sufferings and promised to devote his life to alleviating these sufferings. 

                                 Conference in the world Parliament Religions

During his wandering , he learned about the world and really wanted to attend the meeting. The world Parliament of Religions was held in Chicago, USA, in 1893. Ramakrishna represented Hinduism and its philosophies. He was Guru of Vivekananda. After that he found confirmation of his wishes while meditating on the rocks of Kanyakumari. It is situated in southern and it is ending point of sourthern India. 

          The money was collected from his Madras(Now Chennai). After that, Vivekananda and his friends travelled from Bombay to Chicago on May 31, 1893. He faced a lot of difficulties on the way to Chicago But his mind remained untamed as ever. He received a standing ovation from the audience for the opening movement, He went and described the principles of Vedanta. Its spiritual meaning and to put Hinduism on the map of world religions. 

       He spent the next two and a half years in the United States. He founded Vedanta Society in New York. He also traveled to Britain to preach the Vedanta Principles and Hindu spiritism to the western world.

                                          Teachings and Mission Ramakrishna 

   When Vivekananda returned to India in 1897 and warmly received by common and royal people. Then , he came to Calcutta after a series of lectures all over the country. and founded the Ramakrishna Mission on May 1, 1897, in Belur Math, near Calcutta . The main goal was to serve the poor and needy people of the country. The goal of Ramakrishna Mission were based on the ideals of Karma Yoga.

              Ramakrishna Mission undertook various reforms in the society. It forms a lot of social service such as the establishment and management of schools, colleges and hospitals and practical  principles of Vedanta through lectures, seminars, workshops and the initiation of relief and rehabilitation work across the country. 

      Swami Vivekananda was a prominent nationalist and had the general welfare of his compatriots in mind. He gave the Slogan: " Stand up, wake up and do not stop until you have reached the goal."

                                                           Death

Swami Vivekananda predicted that he would not live to be forty. He spent his working days at Belur Math, Teaching students sanskrit grammar. He died July 4, 1902. He retired to his room in the evening during the meditation around 9 a.m. and he would have reached "mahasamadhi" and the great saint was cremated on the banks of the Ganges.

              Swami Vivekananda is reveal to the world the true foundation of India's unity. He always try to unite India. He taught our nation how to great diversity can be united. He highlighted the drawbacks of Western culture and the contribution of India to overcoming them. He played a very important role for our country.
